Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy

At High Tide Foundation, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all children, young people and adults who engage with our programmes, partnerships and activities.

Safeguarding means:

  • Protecting children, young people and adults at risk from abuse, harm and exploitation
  • Promoting wellbeing, dignity and respect
  • Creating safe environments where individuals can thrive
  • Acting quickly and appropriately if concerns arise

Our Commitment

High Tide believes that everyone has the right to:

  • Feel safe
  • Be treated with dignity and respect
  • Be heard and taken seriously
  • Be protected from abuse, neglect, coercion or exploitation

We operate robust safeguarding policies that comply with current UK legislation, including the Children Acts, Care Act 2014, and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

How We Keep People Safe

We do this by:

  • Carrying out safer recruitment practices, including DBS checks where appropriate
  • Providing regular safeguarding training for staff and volunteers
  • Maintaining clear reporting procedures
  • Promoting a culture of accountability and professional boundaries
  • Working in partnership with local authorities and safeguarding agencies
  • We do not encourage lone working with any vulnerable individuals by volunteers or staff.

All staff, trustees and volunteers are required to follow our safeguarding policies and code of conduct.

Recognising Concerns

Abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual, financial, discriminatory abuse or neglect. It may happen in person or online.
If we become aware of a safeguarding concern, we will:

  • Listen carefully and respectfully
  • Record concerns accurately
  • Act promptly and proportionately
  • Involve appropriate statutory services where required

The safety and well-being of the individual is always our priority.
