High Tide Foundation connects business and education across Tees Valley to help increase awareness of career opportunities and raise aspirations for young people in the Tees Valley.
We open young people’s eyes and minds to Tees Valley’s diverse career opportunities providing real life work experience which increases understanding, improves skills, raises confidence, and builds aspirations. Through our unique industry programmes we deliver ‘meaningful’ career experiences focusing on getting young people, aged 11-19, out of the classroom into industry across a range of sectors from automotive to animation and from media to manufacturing.
Tees Valley is on the up. Recruitment, skills development and retention is a key challenge facing many companies across all sectors. It couldn’t’ be higher on the agenda in government, local authorities and in board rooms.
Young talent is needed. Young talent with bundles of enthusiasm, equipped with the right level of skills and the willingness to graft. Tees Valley needs to be ready to deliver. Our series of school and industry programmes are designed around local business needs, aligned with TVCA’s sector skills strategy and deliver ‘meaningful’ career experiences required by the national careers framework the Gatsby Benchmarks.
Our programmes not only build work-based skills and awareness, they have a key focus on life skills, changing attitudes, developing networks and building ambitions.
The Foundation delivers nine established industry led programmes, from cadetships through to work experience placements, that support young people into work and deliver measurable improvements to skills and confidence. Programmes such as the Port to Port and Sea & Learn also provide “life changing” experiences that are inspiring young people and dramatically improving personal and social skills.
High Tide was established over 6 years and is funded by businesses on Tees Valley. During that time we have made tremendous progress connecting schools and colleges with businesses on Teesside, inspiring collaboration and bringing the community together around a range of key sectors including Logistics, Engineering, Manufacturing, Professional Services, Retail, Leisure and Tourism, and Creative and Media.
This has led to the successful delivery of our fantastic programmes and schemes which have already seen great results from insightful and engaging work experience placements to trips on-board container ships visiting European ports.
With the help of a growing membership base of more than 130 member companies we have engaged with more than 35 schools on Teesside and interacted with over 6,000 young people – to say we’ve broadened their horizons is an understatement. For businesses becoming a member of High Tide is FREE. All we ask is your commitment to pledge time and resources to help us to continue to deliver our programmes and enthuse young people on their career journey.
All our programmes are FREE to our education members. If you are a school or business on Teesside and you’re interested in becoming a member or applying for any of our programmes then please get in touch with the High Tide team on 01642 233 597, drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or complete our enquiry form.
