Career Taster Weeks Open Doors to Future Careers

This term, High Tide Foundation welcomed 38 students from St Peter’s Catholic College and Outwood Academy Redcar to take part in two Career Taster Weeks, providing valuable insight into a range of career pathways across the Tees Valley.

Programmes

The programme was designed to give young people first-hand experience of different sectors, helping them to explore future opportunities, develop workplace awareness and engage directly with professionals from a variety of industries.

Construction and Engineering

Students interested in construction and engineering had the opportunity to visit a range of leading employers and industry specialists, gaining an understanding of the diverse career opportunities available within the sector. Participating organisations included K2 Construction Management, Bowmer & Kirkland, A&N Safety Consultants, Wilton Engineering, Tracerco, MGL Group, Yarm School and Sir Robert McAlpine.

Through workplace visits, practical activities and discussions with industry professionals, students learned about the skills, qualifications and career pathways available across construction, engineering, health and safety, project management and infrastructure.

Health and Social Care

Students exploring careers in health and social care visited a variety of organisations working across healthcare, education, community support and wellbeing. Participating organisations included Daisy Chain, Teesside Hospice, Dormanstown Primary Academy, Consultants Choice Clinic, Yarm School, Moonrise 24/7 and Teesside University.

These experiences provided valuable insight into the wide range of roles available within the sector, while highlighting the importance of communication, empathy, teamwork and person-centred support in improving the lives of others.

Throughout the two weeks, students engaged directly with professionals, explored real working environments and gained a greater understanding of the opportunities available to them after school, college and university.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all participating employers for generously giving their time, knowledge and expertise. Their support continues to play a vital role in inspiring the next generation, broadening horizons and helping young people make informed decisions about their futures.
