Q&A with Mia Goodenough, Apprentice Business Administration Assistant at Jacob's.

Career Stories

Please tell us about your background, younger ambitions, interests, education.

For my education I went to primary and secondary school and got the grades I wished for, then went onto the apprenticeship route a soon as I left school (which was the best thing I ever did). One of my biggest interests is equestrian I was and still am obsessed with horses, I’ve been riding horses and have grown up around them since I was 4 years old, my younger ambition was to become a showjumper. I still enjoy horse riding till this day and have my own horse called Farmer who I have had for nearly 6 years.

How did you get to where you are today, successful women in business? How did you gain your skills and knowledge to do what you’re doing?

I think the reason why I’m where I’m at today as a level 2 business administrator is that I throw myself in the deep end all of the time. I take on tasks that I actually didn’t want to do at first as I was a very nervous person but now I enjoy them tasks and can do them easily which I’m so grateful for! I have a lot of determination to become successful and want to get better and better at what I do.

Have you faced challenging times in the past or any times you have failed at something? How did you face this?

I fail all of the time and that’s okay! I make a number of mistakes but that is just how you learn, I believe that everything happens for a reason and I don’t believe in regrets as you shouldn’t regret anything in life.

Can you tell us about times that have inspired you throughout your life and where do you get your inspiration and motivation from?

? I actually get all of my inspiration and motivation from my dad, he went through difficult times with no home at my age through no fault of his own, he worked hard and now has a successful career owning numerous properties and is doing so well in life. This makes me want to work hard so I get to where he is in life, if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be where I am today 😊

What makes you feel empowered?

I would say that the people around me make me feel empowered especially everyone at work, they are so nice and supportive, they bring out the best in me!

What are your future goals?

For my future goals I would like to become a project planner as my job role, I would like to move into a nice house, pass my driving test and just be healthy and happy.

If you could give one piece of advice to your 15-year-old self, what would it be?

To not worry about your future, everything is going to work out and you are worth more than anything. Self-love is important!! 😊
